چکیده

14 The elemental (C, N and P) and isotopic (δ 13 C, δ 15 N) content of leaves of the seagrasses 15 Thalassia testudinum, Halodule wrightii, and Syringodium filiforme were measured across a 16 10,000 km 2 survey of the seagrass communities of South Florida in 1999 and 2000. Trends at 17 local and broad spatial scales were compared to examine interspecific variation in the seagrass 18 characteristics often used as ecological indicators. The elemental and stable isotope contents of 19 all species were variable and demonstrated marked interspecific variation. At broad spatial scales 20 mean nitrogen: phosphorus (N:P) ratios were lowest for T.testudinum (36:5 ± 1.1) and S. 21 filiforme (38:9 ± 1.3), and highest for H. wrightii (44:1 ± 1.8). Stable carbon isotope ratios (δ 13 C) 22 were highest for S. filiforme (-6.2‰ ± 0.2‰), intermediate for T. testudinum (-8.6‰ ± 0.2‰), 23

Sulfide intrusion in seagrasses assessed by stable sulfur isotopes—a synthesis of current results

*Correspondence: Marianne Holmer, Department of Biology, University of Southern Denmark, Campusvej 55, DK-5230 Odense M, Denmark e-mail: [email protected] Sulfide intrusion in seagrasses, as assessed by stable sulfur isotope signals, is widespread in all climate zones, where seagrasses are growing. Seagrasses can incorporate substantial amounts of 34S-depleted sulfide into their tissues wit...

Geographic variation in the diet of hypsodont herbivores from the Rancholabrean of Florida

Classifying the diet of ancient animals is important for understanding biological phenomena such as resource partitioning and the evolution of particular environments. Focusing on Bison, Equus, and Mammuthus from three geographical areas of Florida (north, central, and south) during the Rancholabrean, this study uses values of stable carbon isotope composition of tooth enamel carbonate collecte...

Stable Isotope Application in Animal Nutrition Science

The application of stable isotope analysis (SIA) has become a standard scientific approach in Agricultural and Ecological researches and, more in general, in several disciplines such as biology, botany, zoology, organic chemistry, climatology, and nutrition. The main objectives of this paper are (1) to provide a simple definition of stable isotopes and (2) to illustrate analytical measurement m...

Hydrochemistry and stable isotopes study of the precipitation at Haraz Basin, north of Iran

Stable isotopes (Deuterium and Oxygen-18) have a broad application in many of water related sciences. Precipitation is the most important input to the water cycle which shows considrable spatial and temporal variability in its isotope content. To study the precipitation isotope content, 51 samples from August 2015 to July 2016 have been collected mainly on a monthly basis with few events based ...

Sulfide Intrusion and Detoxification in the Seagrass Zostera marina

Gaseous sulfide intrusion into seagrasses growing in sulfidic sediments causes little or no harm to the plant, indicating the presence of an unknown sulfide tolerance or detoxification mechanism. We assessed such mechanism in the seagrass Zostera marina in the laboratory and in the field with scanning electron microscopy coupled to energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, chromatographic and spect...
